Yesterday I've moved the basil to normal ground:

It worked, had to only re-fill that ½l bottle about once a week. That it worked was probably thanks to the bubbles going up the bottle as water was draining, but the water may be too stale for the plants to really flourish. May need to re-think and re-design the whole thing, if I'll use it more.

Another use for self-watering that I'm still figuring out. The water doesn't go out of the bottle so easily as one would expect.
